How to Distinguish 6 and 9 in Rotated-MNIST?

How are the CL algorithms differentiating 6 and 9 in Rotated-MNIST?

ah ah nice question! I don’t think the rotation is exactly 180° in papers using Rotated-MNIST, so it may be always possible to distinguish them if the rotation is fixed or in a different range.

As @vincenzo.lomonaco said if the rotation is kept between 90° and -90° you can always distinguish the two digits (maybe you have some problems in the extremes).
Nonetheless, in this work, it is shown that even if the full set of possible rotation is used, a network can distinguish between 6 and 9 (see figure 7), even if a simple CNN with no specific tricks is used.
Probably the way 6s and 9s are written by humans differ, even very slightly, and these difference can be spotted by a network even if the digits are rotated.

Thank you so much for the replies @vincenzo.lomonaco and @ggraffieti.
